RC2JRZ99LPWP Ganna Muromtseva, 29, a professional ballerina from Ukraine who fled her country after Russia's invasion, practices before a stage rehearsal of the Swan Lake ballet at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, Hungary, February 11, 2023. Muromtseva left Ukraine with just a bag when she was at the peak of her career at the National Opera of Ukraine, and after a year of trying to survive from one day to another and rebuilding herself as a dancer physically and mentally, she is now back at the top with the role of the White Swan and the Black Swan, which she had danced for more than five years as part of her Ukraine company in Kyiv, China and Tokyo before. "I'm happy to make a story on stage again," she said. "It is a totally different production (in Budapest), for me it feels like I really have to prove ... You have to be...very flexible in your head, not (just) in your body." REUTERS/Marton Monus SEARCH "MONUS BALLERINA" FOR THIS STORY. SEARCH "WIDER IMAGE" FOR ALL STORIES.

alb3663368 Dancers Practicing at the Barre. Artist: Edgar Degas (French, Paris 1834-1917 Paris). Dimensions: 29 3/4 x 32 in. (75.6 x 81.3 cm). Date: 1877.The watering can, visible at left, was a standard fixture in ballet rehearsal rooms; water was sprinkled on the floor to keep dust from rising when ballerinas danced. Degas also used the watering can as a visual pun: its shape is mimicked by that of the dancer at right. Shown at the 1877 Impressionist exhibition, the painting was given by Degas to the collector Henri Rouart as a replacement for an earlier work (now lost), which the artist altered and accidentally destroyed. Louisine Havemeyer purchased it from Rouart's estate sale in 1912, for $95,700, a record price for a work by a living artist. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

alb3644855 The Dancing Class. Artist: Edgar Degas (French, Paris 1834-1917 Paris). Dimensions: 7 3/4 x 10 5/8 in. (19.7 x 27 cm). Date: ca. 1870.This is Degas's first depiction of a dance class. Because the artist did not yet have privileges to go backstage at the Paris Opéra, his subjects came to his studio to pose. These sessions yielded many large study drawings, which Degas subsequently adapted for other compositions. In the late 1870s, he explained, "I have painted so many of these dance examinations without having seen them that I am a little ashamed of it.". Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
